“...A pool to match”

Project Outline

New Zealand weather can take its toll on any outdoor area. This particular exterior renovation was no exception, and after years of harsh summer sun and heavy rain during winter, the existing outdoor deck pool area had reached its lifespan. Not all renovations need to incorporate major change, and a deck restoration such as this is a great example.

The pre-existing design was based on a natural, rustic terrain and custom fitting of macrocarpa sleepers that would make reinstating the deck a challenge. This meant that we had to work around the existing rocks in order to achieve a better outcome. We also had to create custom scribe cuts based on the existing macrocarpa on the deck. Once the existing deck was removed, it exposed a larger safety issue stemming from rotting framework, which would need to be addressed before replacing the deck itself.

After removing and replacing the the original framing, we built the new deck to original spec using  a top timber supplier (Dayle ITM) to provide specialist material - structural fixings and macrocarpa.

The outcome is a safer, fully-restored deck that has brought the outdoor pool area back to life. Using a higher quality product also meant that we can guarantee another 15+ year lifespan, which is ideal for the client.

Improving the decks structural integrity whilst keeping the original look and feel is a win win, and also proves that you can make high-spec maintenance go a long way.
