Project Outline
Galatea Tce was an original Herne Bay villa that required a complete NDH overhaul. The 1970’s extension in the back of the house had been poorly designed with out of date product and materials, which created cold, damp and mouldy spaces. As a result, the kitchen, laundry and bathroom would need to be fully removed and rebuilt as a new extension at the rear of the house.
NDH was brought in to consult on and restore this classic Auckland villa back to its original and full potential. We started by removing and replacing the extension with larger, more open-plan and modern living space.
The existing interior, which had remained undecorated for 35+ years, was outdated and ready for a change. False ceilings covering the character board of these batten-style villa's was a trend at the time, however we removed this and restored the original character board, which instantly brought the unique characteristics and feel of the property back to life.
We also replaced the piling, which had moved over time, causing the house to become out of level and new foundations would be required. Replacing this resulted in a structurally sound and level floor.
The end result is a modernised villa brought back to its original character, complete with insulated walls, warm and dry spaces, double glazed windows and more room for the family and their daily routines.
